Like the marksman DLC any features that they release that change gameplay or core game mechanics they will release free, i.e. the water texture improvements.  To use any items, maps, vehicles, missions you would need to buy the DLC.  So as long as we as 3CB agreed not to make missions on Tanoa then nobody would need to buy it.

Maybe there is also the chance they will make something like they did in ArmA 2 with other Addons like the BAF and you can get a lite version of it. Considering the ammount of free updates and content they did put in in over two years, I have no issues paying for a true expansion.

There is no war to end all wars.

I don't think agreeing not to buy the DLC is going to help in any way.

Why should the whole community be held back because a couple of people can't or won't buy Tanoa.

This new map will be a big thing that sparks off both old and new interest in A3. 3CB not taking advantage of that would be crazy.

I suppose the question I meant to ask, at the moment I don't own the Helicopter DLC, but that wouldn't stop me from flying a helicopter on our server. I thought that it would be similar.

But with that said, considering the paid DLC that other titles have, especially in the console world, where mods are near to non-existent, we very rarely require to pay for any content within ArmA - due in part to our superior Mod making skills.

If purchasing Tanoa, keeps the ArmA Dev team in a building and working on other stuff, I got no issues with paying for it, considering it would be the first DLC that would only be accessible to those that own it, two years after Arma 3 first came out, most game studios release games every year that are essentially the same thing (Fifa for example)

The only reason you can fly the helicopters Deejay is that we use mod ones, if we were to use the vanilla Huron then you wouldn't be able to fly it but you would be able to be a passenger. Same with the weapons from the marksman DLC you would be able to see someone firing it but just not use it.

I will probably buy it because it sounds like it will be a really good map, plus there will be a co-op campaign which would be interesting to do with others.

Probably the best way forward with this is to wait until/soon before it's released and then take a poll of the community to find who owns/wants it and who doesn't. If the majority of people are getting it, you could consider doing some ops etc built on it - if a large proportion aren't, then you probably wouldn't.

From my perspective, I've spent approx £40 on Arma3 for 1200 hours of enjoyment (3p an hour) so I'm more than happy to give BI far more money.  DLC is the only way to currently achieve this.

Same here, I'm happy to give money to BI just to say thanks for the game, so getting more content is even better.

Yeah, the expansion will probably end up being a de-facto requirement for everybody, same as Operation Arrowhead for A2 ended up being a requirement for like 99% of clans.
