Arma 3 Milsim Radio Guide

One of the devs tweeted this guide made by some unit about radio comms, worth a read

It's largely how we do it except for the Americanisms/movieisms that seem to have crept in.

(Yes, I'm guilty too)

It's nice to see that I tend to not use some things that are "wrong" because they dont seem to be very logical to me. I never really understood why you would say something like "how copy" when you actally just want to say over. Same goes for solid copy and send traffic.

Is saying "Interrogative" before asking a question an Americanism? I have only heard it on Generation Kill, and now on here....

Solid copy big benzy rubber ducky 10-4 :)

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.

My level of sarcasm depends on your level of stupidity.

Exept the germans benzy, exept the germans. :)

You wild get yelled at for not using a special way (that I dont get) how you pronounce "ost" (east). For some reason the german army and a lot of milsims related to it pronounce it OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOST. Their argument is that "ost" could be mistaken for something different (which is s**t). They have extremely weird terms that feel like they were created by monthy python and to me it is also a nonstop cringe. Also german radio traffic is always using personal pronouns that make it sound very formally. It's like a own language with the exeption you take logic away.

Aaaargh, accidentally closed the tab after making a massive post with corrections to this "Guide"

Can't be bothered to make the same structure again and post it, so tl;dr:

Second Clyde, a lot of that info on the "guide" is wrong, fiction or very over-simplified. However, it wouldn't hurt to take a few out to use during 3CB operations.

Our current radio structure works very well and is a close representation of Comms used by the army, but again, is loosened a bit to make the Ops that more enjoyable.

The only circumstance I can see for interrogative is when you need absolutely no doubt that you are asking a question. "Interrogative, weapons free?" compared to "Weapons free?" over poor comms might prevent something s**t from happening.
In Arma though, not really necessary. Our communication transmission quality is exceptional at 99% of the time. The content may be garbage, but it gets through. :D

I've only heard of it in Gen. Kill and don't remember it ever appearing in the book written by the reporter or it's counterpart "One Bullet Away" by the platoon lieutenant.

There is a small amount of justification for it though, there's maritime signal pennant called "Questioning (INT)", as in INTerrogative and the term has probably just hung around since then despite having been phased out with the introduction of radios.
