Well, the rules have certainly changed. I've been waiting for this game for a while now, and in between then and now, Games Workshop have effectively ended the Warhammer Fantasy world as it has always been and turned it into something entirely different. Chaos won and devoured the world. All of the well known characters were killed. Now we have factions split along dimensional lines....Bizarre. Still, I trust the Total War guys to make a good job of portraying the world as it was.

I wouldn't consider myself a massive fan of Lord of the Rings (only seen the first one), but I would love to see this happen. It just makes so much sense.

Although initially hyped, one I am skeptical of the engine they will use and hope they don't f**k it up with the stupid combat animations that force units to 1v1 duel. But if you need real disapointed because we only have 4 factions to play: Greenskins, The Empire, Dwarves, and Vampire Counts. Although these would be pretty boss to play, and its understandable why Chaos is not playable (probably an event like mongol hordes) no elves, skavens, etc. I know its common practice now but kind of a bummer we will probably see these units later in DLC (multiple as my intuition says) but if the initial game is good, I will give Creative Assembly a hug and forgive them somewhat of the recent Rome II f**k ups.

I'm really hopeful for this, big fan of warhammer and total war.
From what I've read, instead of the usual DLC model they are making this a min trilogy I think. Each game will have a full sized campaign map and a set of unique factions (each set in a different part of the warhammer world). Owning the 1st when you install the second will combine them, and same with the 3rd. So in theory we end up with the whole world and all the factions.

Not sure how this will work in practice, but it sounds like it's got promise! (Though I assume I'll need to wait until the 3rd one for my beloved Lizardmen haha)

Well not entirely, they'll probably do both (maximum cash that way) but they did say they're making it a trilogy, so we'll have to wait and see guess

Here we go, check out the last paragraph.
Two very large expansions with DLC in between. So I'm guessing each expansion will add a bit of the world and then they'll use the DLC model to flush each chunk out

Yeah, I'll probably "preorder" it a couple weeks before release if the reviews don't say it's a complete s**t. I know CA enough to know that even if it is the usual bug-ridden s**t on launch, I'll still love it to bits :<

It is somewhat ironic that GW finally start making some decent Warhammer Fantasy computer games only AFTER they have recently destroyed the 30+ year old fantasy world in which these games are set.

I'm not hopeful, but I hope it launches in a better state than Rome 2 at least. I love these games, and after they get patched up they're brilliant. But having to wait 6 months after release before it's fully 'playable' sucks.

Still, I say all this, but total war and warhammer are two of my favourite things so I'll definitely be pre ordering closer to release. I'm even tempted by the high king edition - that drinking horn, haha

Is just a shame I can't lead my mighty lizardman hordes yet. (Probably going to have to wait for the 2nd major expansion before they include that part of the world)
