I've been playing Enemy Within the last week (no friggen money for 2 :( ), and failed three 99% and a 100% shot in a single mission. Assuming it's telling the truth about the odds (and that the 100% was actually a 99.5%), that's a 1 in 200 million chance :'(

Something terrible has happened...

I was on a VIP Rescue Mission and I am at a stage of the campaign where a new enemy appears. The enemy has also the ability to mind control and sadly Benzy and Whip were not protected. Both are usually not at the direct front since Whip is a Sniper and Benzy a heavy guy that works a lot with splash damage and supressive fire. That new alien also does teleport pretty much every time you hit him and he was teleporting to the rear of my soldiers. That led to a bad situation:

- VIP rescued
- 4 Turns left till extract.
- Whip and Benzy failing to kill each other

Whip got mind controlled and shot at benzy but missed. The other round whip was free again but the alien took control over benzy and so benzy tried some revenge on whip but also missed. This went on for two more turns...

Really enjoying this so far... though I've fallen into the same annoying OCD habit as I did with Jagged Alliance 2. I'll save before every turn and usually reload my game if anyone gets killed or wounded. The result being I have 5 OP god-like soldiers with a ton of neglected backup.

Anyone else play this way, or do guys let things naturally play-out? I.e. if they die they die.

There is a mod that is appropriately called "save scum". Without it the game will has already regeistered what the RNG (random numbers generator) will do. So when you miss one of those glorious 99% hit chance shots, loading a save before that will not change that. The mod can disable that for the active turn of a unit. I only really load up old saves when something catastrophic is happening.

Is there still Ironman Mode in XCOM 2? If so, and you actually wanna stop yourself from reloading saves, you can always enable that. Everything that gets saved for that playthrough saves to one save so no reloading :D

Bought this game recently, and been having a blast. RNG pissing me off a bit, but that's just my casual luck. Can take some great screenshots too.

Edit: And yeah arka I do the exact same thing. Try to do a 100% perfect run without any casualties and when someone dies I just reload a turn save and do it differently.

I'm mid way through my first file, had some seriously horrendous dice based incidents that have cost many lives haha.
I try not to reload if something bad happens, but I do very occasionally if I get screwed over so bad it could cause the file to collapse haha. Once I've played it through once I'm going to ironman it however
