IED's on the public server

There's been some negative talk about IED's on the server recently, so I'd like to know if this is a consensus opinion.

Please vote in the poll.
Question.: Remove the IED's from the public server?
Straight Yes or No please.

I don't have time to change the script at the moment, so it's either IED's or no IED's.

Poll closes in 5 days.

If we do end up taking them off, it might be temporary until we can tweak the script to make it better suited to what you guys would enjoy most, but that's not the discussion for here and now.

I love IED's but I feel they might be a bit inappropriate to the "conventional warfare" theme of the current public server mission.

I do like IED's but there are some points that should be in consideration when putting them on maps.

Do they fit into the scenario of the map?
I dont like IED's just for the sake of having IED's. I dont really think IED's fit very well into scenarios, where you fight against regular troops. It always feels a bit weird and I would guess that they would probably use regular mines.

Can they be seen?
That doesnt mean IED's should have a blinking sign over them that says: WATCH OUT IED! But players need to have a realistic chance to actually locate them.

Can they be disarmed?
Like the point above, there needs to be a realistic chance that a IED can be disarmed by players.

Those are my key points about the usage of IED's on maps. So I cant really vote for a yes or no. To me it is up to the guys who spend their time building maps and missions. If they think IED's fit into this map, thats it for me.

There is no war to end all wars.

I don't think anyone wants IEDs to go, only tweaked. See last few posts on page 2 & 3:

Hench, I'm not sure that you've reached the correct conclusion about whether IED's work on Panthera.
They seem fine to me if you follow the correct procedure.
More information in the video description.

I can't remember the exact details you gave, but if it blew up during or after disarm:

If you were an Engineer or Explosives Expert, 1 in 20
If you weren't either of them, 1 in 4.

If you didn't get a disarm option, it might have been similar to the large car IED in the video that is on quite a slope and I needed to search around with the mouse a little to find the disarm option.
Anyway, I couldn't detect any problems in testing today, with 100% success on everything I tried.

Of course I had the advantage of knowing what item was an IED and what not. Another possibility is that you found what you thought was an IED, and when you couldn't disarm it, missed seeing another small IED which subsequently blew up. Dunno, just a thought.

I don't mind IED's as long as they make sense. In the conventional warfare setting with the Russians it detracts from the gameplay somewhat. Keeping IEDs for COIN ops and perhaps using certain defined areas on the map to be mined (with actual mines that can be defused, not a spare wheel or a bin ;p) for conventional warfare against Russians
