Erf, that may have been me - was simply told to strike the tank between hangars that was lased, no report of friendlies within 100m let alone sat ontop of it :/

That's what you're doing 'wrong'

The Warrior really shines when it's deployed behind a section, with the section providing protection to the warrior and the warrior protecting the section
