Apex NVGs

Server / Map:All maps
Suggestion/Query:I think the Nvgs added by apex should be removed from the armoury. They ruin the experience for everyone not using them spotting enemies that people without them wouldnt have a chance to spot. This problem is multiplied hugely at night where people with regular NVGs have got very limitted visability, With the apex goggles they can spot every enemy a mile off ruining it for everyone else. We strive for a milsim group yet we allow people to use things that are blatent cheats.

The amount of people that use the Thermal Goggles actually frustrates me. It creates an unreal advantage and from the point of view of a Section Commander, you will often get information from people using this kit that you physically cannot see easily. For example, one man 800 meters away in the treeline wearing camo... no ordinary person can see that and it ruins the immersion for me.

Honestly, I think the entire kit in the armoury needs to be reviewed. I'll bring it up with @Parker as there is a lot of kit in there which breaks immersion, but also ruins the idea of MilSim. For example, Dooms Day rounds etc.

+1 Think people would enjoy it more if they had to spot things naturally or use other resources. eg armoured, recce or air to spot.

Agreed, TI should only be used in exceptional circumstances.

I've added their removal to our public missions backlog

Is that all the TI's Lifetap? Or just the goggles? Or something in-between? Because I agree goggles ruin things, but an MX-2A or Javelin CLU is realistic and a more balanced way of using thermals.

Javelins/vehicles/helicopters etc is a different kettle of fish I think.

I think mostly the idea is to keep them out of the hands of the general infantryman, so restricting the use of Thermal Scopes/Sights & the goggles etc.

Just adding mybit to the discussion as I play marksman a lot its crucial for me to see the
target as it is for everyone, any piece of equipment that enables me to do this
would be an advantage in any situation which is why I take them.
We are  emulating a british commando unit, these bitsof kit are issued to them so there should be no problem using them, if they
were a item which was not used or not issued then I can understand the issues.
I use a lot ofwhat you guys call stupid weps and I realise that’s  it’s a laugh but not having played the game untila few months ago saying don’t use vanilla weapons means jack to Me I didn’t even
know they were flavoured but if 3cb wanna make me a super marksman rifle
preferably strawberry flavour I will use it all the time.
If its in thearmoury ppl who are new to armour are gonna use it, ime not sure they are a
massive advantage but if you take them out then that’s cool everyone can’t use
them.
Have pasted abit below from the newspaper that backs up they use them and they are a pretty
essential bit of kit and are still being developed and improved.
Perhaps youshould take off nvg’s as well using the same argument as using them you can
walk up to the enemy give em a quickie and get away before they see you, just a
comment not bothered either way if they go I may cry in bed to myself but only
for a few days I’ll get over it sob.

SOLDIERS couldsoon be able to toggle between night vision and the thermal sight from the
barrel of their weapon at the touch of a button.
Night visionand thermal imaging play a crucial role in modern warfare.
The former provides soldierswith situational awareness – illuminating their surroundings during nighttime
operations or in the midst of heavy smoke or bad weather.
Thermal weapon sight – whichis mounted to the weapon – helps sharpshooters quickly spot a target in poor
visibility.
Until now, soldiers have beenforced to carry both technologies into the battlefield. But that could be about
to change.
Defence technology andmilitary support firm BAE Systems this morning announced a new type of headset
which would combines night vision and thermal weapon sights.
"It iscritical for soldiers to be able to quickly locate and identify targets,"
the announcement from BAE reads.
"On today's battlefield, this slower [two optic] approach, which is often further hampered by heavy
smoke or bad weather, compromises soldiers' safety and can reduce mission
effectiveness.
"By integrating nightvision and thermal targeting capabilities into one sight displayed on the
soldiers' goggles, BAE Systems' new solution allows troops to more easily
acquire targets and engage faster."
The new goggles willreportedly stream a live video feed from the thermal weapon sight using
bluetooth.
At the flick of a switch, warfighters will be able to toggle between the night vision view of their
surroundings – to the thermal sight of their weapon.
BAE Sytems released anillustration of the new technology which shows the crosshairs of the thermal
weapon sight overlaid on the soldier's night vision view.

I also agree that thermal goggles and other equipment that would not be carried by standard infantry soldiers should be disallowed unless approved by the troop OC for the task.
