So you weren't running JSRS on the servers? Only SP?

No I was not testing it on Friday.

I have been testing it today on the Public - no errors so far.

As far as I understand it, the reason most other clans do not use JSRS is because its server side scripts cause network issues and performance / stability problems for other players. Not necessarily rpt type errors.

So you must have added the jsrs bikey to the public server. Is it running server side? If not, is there a sever side component, and what does it do?

You're right to mention that. The original JSRS was a nightmare, but to be fair to the guy that was many many iterations ago. the mod has been re-designed several times since, though its naming and documentation is poor so this is not directly obvious unless you follow the threads. TLDR the version we're testing now has nothing in common with JSRS 1, 1.2, 2.0 or Dragonfyre.

The new version (JSRS APEX) is solely client side - that's what I'm testing now. it's basically a load of replacement PBOs that map over most of the vanilla sounds like bullets striking metal etc. So there are no calls to the server at all. It's not doing any clever sharing of explosion sounds etc. It's really an alternative to Dynasound in how it simply uses custom sound files.

The bit that spams the server (re-load sounds) is optional  - and on the build I'm testing these PBOs have been removed. And cannot be added back in without a special Key.

There is no Server side. It's solely client side only.

I think it is a bit sad that dynasound (while it was still optinal) is now replaced with JSRS (which is also optional). Dynasound always felt more downed to earth, while JSRS always had a bit of a Hollywood tendency.

There is no war to end all wars.

I asked the same question last night JD. The answer was no.
The reason given was the fear that some people would either deliberately or inadvertently download and run both sound mods together, causing them problems.

There are several reasons, one as per Apollo's comment.

Dynasound is not being updated at present, and has started to generate script errors.

Also since both RHS and the BAF weapons now use the same sounds as within dynasound it becomes less relevant.

Foremost we need server stability, next comes the nice to haves ....

We'll evaluate JSRS for a few weeks.  If its buggy we'll pull it.  If its ok, then we'll seek opinions of whether its a good replacement for Dynasound.
