ARMA 3 Editor

Hello Gents! I'm currently interested in making my own mission in A3 Editor (personal project), but have no idea how to script, use triggers/waypoints in A3 editor, would appreciate it if people could leave down tips and tricks down in the comment section to help me out on how to navigate the world of editing, seems I have a lot to learn, just need a guide on how to do it, thanks!

When I started learning how to programme in SQF, I had a lot of help however, I did use the guides from a guy called killzone kid. he's pretty know in the ArmA community with his contributions. http://killzonekid.com/category/games/arma-3/

Otherwise, your best friend is the wiki as that tells you enough (in most cases).

+1 for KK's guides for moderate->advanced scripting and mission work. Not sure how good they are for beginner stuff, I just self-taught.

I'd recommend learning how to program first.  Pick any high level language and make sure you understand the basics: loops, conditionals, variables, functions, parameter passing.  Then once you've got those, move onto KillZone's tutorials, they're excellent.  But read all of the them, starting right back at the beginning (page 12-ish)

If like me you think reading pages of text is the enemy and prefer videos here's some bits to get you started;

You cannot learn to code from watching videos.  They may help, but you also need to read the documentation and have lots of practice.  There are some fundamentals that you have to nail, otherwise you'll have either unreliable or inefficient scripts.

My best advice is to avoid scripting if you have not programmed before.  At best you'll just end up with a buggy mission, at worst you'll quit with frustration.

Jesus guys, didn't expect such replies! I'll be sure to take a look at all you guys said, and yes I have never programmed before, so currently am taking a look at various websites and videos on programming for Arma 3 (and in general) am really looking forward to making my own mission (and hopefully a 3CB mission soon enough), i've learned the basics of pure 3den editor, now upon the extra stuff, thanks guys!

Dwayne, I think you've misunderstood the OP.  Config work in mods is not scripting, it's just static data.  Scripting is programmable logic, that is executed at run-time.

I stand by my point that if you have never programmed before, A3 is not the place to start.  It's an awful. very unforgiving, distributed async environment with no way of knowing whether what you have programmed is actually game breaking.  It's why so many mods break our systems, and why if you're running with logs you see a large number of errors.  Just to put this into perspective, you'd not be expected to program such an environment until the final year of most CS degrees.

The easiest way is to pick one of the many online resources on how to program.  Once you understand the basics, then look tentatively at A3 scripting.
