Seriously though, this should be doable - I'm just surprised given the dislike for entrenching that forestry would desired.

My main issue with the entrenching tool is that what it creates looks absolutely abhorrent.

It may not be as elegant as a woodcutters axe, but it's certainly efficient and gets the job done right. Image

Edit: I should mention, if you're preparing a position for a defensive against an enemy attack, it's more than OK to blow up some trees to make yourself an arch of fire. As long as the enemy isn't roughly half a kilometre away and you plan on staying concealed up until close contact.
