Saw Sicario with the misses over the weekend. Great flick - well worth a watch in the cinema. Strong female character too which kept the misses entertained throughout all the shooty bits. Check it out.

Too soon to be a "favourite film", but I just saw The Martian and loved it :D It's got a nice balance between scientific realism, with a few concessions to cinematic requirements or public understanding. I can highly recommend anyone watch it!

Kajaki : the true story

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but I watched this last night on Netflix, and even my wife (who hates war films) was hooked, harrowing true story but very well done imho

German Movies, Ja?

Oh Boy is kind of a german classic to me. The film was shot with a very small budget and is actually the master thesis from a young director from 2012. The film is shot in black and white and shows the day of a young german man in berlin. There is no direct story in the film and it more or less is just showing obscure, funny and sometimes tragic moments. The main character is a young drifter who is is living in the day in berlin. He is also failing to get a coffee .:)

That's not his fault. It's all these hipster plamf baristas trying to make coffee all haute couture.

On German films. I always liked Das Boot, The Lives of Others and Downfall. I've seen others but those three stick in my mind.

I also prefer my waiters and the people who serve stuff in small shops and kioks gruffy and slightly unfriendly.
