Where's Nemiuk... He actually lugged one of these beasts around when he was guarding the airbase cafeteria back in the day... Nemi?

Thank for your advices guys, so we know that m240 have a heat shield, check, but how would you tell apart L7 from original FN MAG?
The only real visual differences between the FN MAG and L7A2 are carrying handle (It's conical and ribbed on the L7A2) and the dovetail bracket on the side of the receiver on the L7A2. Oh, and the buttstock.

The differences between the FN MAG/L7A2 and M240 are more numerous but include:
Flash eliminator.
Carrying handle (Between L7 and M240. The FN MAG and M240 use the same one.)
The buttstock.
Rail on the top cover.
Gas regulator.
Heat shield over the barrel on the M240 (although not every M240 has one.)
Retaining pin on the pistol grip.
Above mentioned sight bracket on the L7A2.

There are others, those were just off the top of my head.

Nemi will explain... But the little metal pieces are collets, part of the gas system I'm told and the triangle is a marker you place down under an L7 tripod when in SF mode to allow you to move it, without losing the original firing position. Like a cue ball :-)

What he said ;-)

With GPMG in place mounted on a tripod you place the white triangle underneath the cradle of the tripod looking through the hole in it and line it up with the black dot on the triangle, you also place 3 white metal pegs next to the feet on the legs to mark the position. You can then remove the GPMG and tripod and move to another position as you might have a day and night location for the gun line for instance. You can then move back to the original position and line it up with the triangle and pegs and it should be set.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.

My level of sarcasm depends on your level of stupidity.
