Best software to record

FRAPS
Drops me about 4 fps.
2.5 hours last night was 250Gb at 1080p, Gulp.

On the plus side, quality of picture and audio is excellent, so nice for video editing. What Youtube does to it on upload makes me cry though.

Haven't tried any others, but I hear DxTory is good too.

Unless I'm mistaken, you can't fit a quart into a pint pot. As my mum used to say.
In other words, if a file is 4 times smaller, it's probably because it's been compressed. More compression = lower quality. Although I understand that not all compression algorithms are equal. And if it's going on youtube, perhaps some (or more) compression of the raw video is acceptable anyway.
