Gaming Rig - Thoughts?

Yes, the day has come - I'm finally thinking about selling my iMac and building a gaming rig. Thoughts on this build:

I might change the ATI R9 290 for a GTX 780 Ti, but I don't know if it's worth spending the extra.

Thanks for everyone's input!

Nice build Jamie...

Just go for the 780ti here... they're end of life so going cheap - but be quick as they'll move fast.

Alternativelt the new 970 is very VERY good value for money and the Maxwell chips overclock themselves with one button to ridiculous levels with VERY low power and heat. Amazing

You'll need a proper CPU cooler too. Recommend for your rig the Corsair 100i or 105 depending on whether you want software control of the fan and pump speed that you get on the 100i. Both very capable and will allow some room for the over-clock.

CPU is good. Thinking of getting that myself for my next build.
What is the reason for that motherboard?
Ram is gd.
Do you really need 512GB SSD? What is it even for? Are you just installing apps and os?
Hope you're going to raid those 1TB drives.
Card is gd. Although I wouldn't go ATI since I've had bad experience with them but I did have a dual GPU and the drivers sucked. Mostly heard its fine with single gpu.
Do you have a reason for a full tower? They are pretty big. Unless you need the space you could go for a smaller tower.
PSU could maybe get away with a 750w.
Sound card probably gd. I use asus xonar dx and it works pretty gd. Pretty basic but gd sound for the price I paid.

About time you move from a MAC and get real gaming.

Don't forget a mouse. You'll be amazed to hear that they're available with more than one button.

Howl and Mikk have persuaded me to go for a GTX 970. Specs look pretty good and the price is good as well.

I'd put the soundcard back on... You will regret not having it.

Onboard Audio... even the best most moden version like on the Rampage v - still Suck versus dedicated.

Well I took it off since I use a USB headset (so no soundcard needed), and my speakers are S/PDIF (so no need for a soundcard there either). If ever I switch to an analog headset in the future then I'd definitely get a soundcard.
