Overclocking CPU

Comparison of ArmA 3 with an i5 4690 at stock and with a 1000MHz overclock:

Full video, other games shown:

What isn't shown is all the crash reboots on the overclocked chip.  ;-)

I get about 1 per week... normally watching youtube of all things. Rarely crashes in games.

i7 5960x 3500mhz clocked at 4500

The test wasn't the best btw as you could see how bottlenecked it was by the graphics card much of the time. First segment is a good example of that.

ARMA segment really shows how much CPU is king though !

Mikk, what cooler do you use? What temp does the CPU run at? What voltage?

Don't tell SJ but I have the same chip as you and might try oc'ing it.

How long is a piece of string. With stock cooling I wouldn't recommend OCing... just don't even try - likely to cause you big headaches.

However cheap AIO water coolers like Corsair H80i can be picked up real cheap - I don't know the specifics of your chip OR your MB so research first that OC is possible. Some chips are NOT oc-able equally only some MB's allow the functionality

looks like it's possible

only small oc possible though to 3.6 or so assuming you have the right board and chipset

If you're using chrome and a new-ish nvidia card&driver, that's a common issue.. :( Might not even be OC related.
