Stick with an i5 unless you're doing a lot of video encoding. Most games won't make full use of an i7. (I think)

Apollo's right if the budget looks a little unpleasant - just make sure you get an unlocked version if you fancy Overclocking it.

i5 devils canyon with a sealed watercooler ... will overclock to 4.5 and run at 30-40 degrees

But an SSD would make a huge difference

I'm totally in love with SSD's for general use and would never build a PC without one now.
However, to be fair, I'm not sure I saw a huge difference in game-play performance in A3 when I moved from HDD to SSD.

I agree, it does not make a great of difference in Arma game play, although I would not live without one.  The PC is just so much more responsive

It should update itself if you run Magician.

My 850's updated to latest Firmware 2 days ago... not sure what changed
