Suggested Upgrade

Hi Guys

I'm looking to upgrade my PC a bit as i'm kinda tired of ARMA looking, well, stunning on high/ultra settings...offline. But more like a PS1 title when online. I'm not the most tech savvy when it comes to components but i'm lead to believe that my problem is a bottleneck at my CPU.

Current Spec:

Intel i3 4130 a 3.4 GHz
8 gb DDR3-1333
ASUS AMD R9 270x
Windows 8.1

Everything is stock cooled and the GPU hasn't been overclocked. Given my relative inexperience with this sort of thing I'm a little reluctant to overclock if I can help it.

ARMA and my mods are currently saved to an SSD along with my OS.

Currently get between 45-60 fps on high to ultra offline, but 15-25 online.

If i dial down everything to low i can get 20-35ish online depending on whats happening in game.

Im looking at an i7 4790k 4.0 GHz but wondered if there were any other options before forking out?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

You're probably not gonna like this but if you can get 60fps offline a new CPU will probably not help that much online..

What's the internet specs you're getting i.e. Upload/DL Ping etc...

Undoubtably a new shiny i7 would give you a faster PC - but it may not be worth the cost to you JUST for ARMA ?

Jesus! Just done my first speed test for a few months and currently geting 6.8mb/s ul and0.8 mb/s dl ping is 32 ms.

Probably doesn't help that the wiring in my house sucks, and no option for fibre atm. Which considering im less than 10 miles from the centre of Manchester is pretty s**t.

Oh well, saved £260 at least... every cloud

Yep I don't think that is helping at all.

Have you tried re-setting your router... that is VERY poor signal

Yeah, doesn't really make much difference. Don't even have a master socket to plug it into.

Sorry wrong way round 6 dl and 0.8 up. There's no master socket where the line entered the house just a junction box. The only phone socket is actually under my stairs so effectively in the centre of the house.

Currently with talk talk. They only seem to have 1 package but they seem to think I should be getting 15-20mbps on my line. Everything is wired and there nothing else connected to the network that should be devouring bandwidth.

They look fairly old, not sure I'm thrilled at the prospect of paying £130 to have a master socket installed

LessThanDave not sure if you're aware but DeeJay is an telecoms engineer - he will probably be able to help you... If you let him :-)
