Windows Update Screws launch from PwS Fault is with D3DGear

Hi Gents,

The latest windows update installed this a.m. caused my Arma 3 launch to crash with a read memory error  after loading addons etc. when launching through PwS. Could not even get to the Intro.   I tried everything including reinstall of PwS and deleting profiles etc. to get it running but no go.  The funny thing was that launching Arma 3 without PwS worked fine.  The only solution was to restore my computer to an earlier date and I have now switched off auto updates from Windows.  Wondering if anyone else has this problem and if they found a better solution?

Cheers

Ney88

The system I am running is an
i7-3930K, 64K
Windos 8.1 Pro
Radeon R9 390x graphics Card.

I've just installed the same Windows update (Win 7), no problems launching A3 for me via PwS.

Maybe a windows 8.1 issue? I'll give it a go when I get home

Just updated win 8.1 and its ok for me. Its a security update I believe so it may have updated some permissions. Have you double checked its running as admin?

Thanks Dave

You gave me the impetus to retry so I reinstalled the update carefully,  monitoring closely and double checked all the permissions.  Arma 3 launched without any problem this time.  I think that there may have been a glitch caused as the update was installed when I restarted the computer in the morning after shutting down the previous night.  Another windows mystery perhaps???

Cheers Mate.

If making windows work properly were easy someone would have managed it by now lol

Spoke to soon - like Freddy Kruger it came back!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAGH.  However I believe now that it is not the Windows Update but it may be something to do with D3DGear and or raptr which I had been fiddling about with..  I still have the Windows Update installed and Arma 3 is running OK at the moment - will see tonight during the OP.  Fingers crossed!!

Will do a bit of deduction and report back in a few days.

Its running and that is all that matters.

I have now narrowed it down to some conflict with D3DGear which even if just installed causes the problem.  There are a couple of other instances reported on the web with both Arma 3 and other games.  Proven it twice now with reinstalling and uninstalling D3DGear and running Arma 3 each time with nothing else on. However finding the cause is a bit beyond me.  Here we go again -  now try some other program.

p.s. Hope this helps someone with a similar problem.
