Having a bad week.

So I finally got my pc sorted after my windows 10 debacle. And thought id give the hardware a once over. Including replacing the generic thermal paste with some arctic silver mx-4. Unfortunately I managed to get some on the CPU pins (because to not do this would have been too easy). I managed to clean off as much as possible but my pc will no longer boot. I'm hoping its just some residual moisture from cleaning shorting the system and that with a but if time it will sort itself. Just wondering if anyone else had been as foolish, and trying to figure out how f@*#ed I am?

have you got isopropanol spray.. that should get rid of any residue.

But if it's shorted the inside... little you can do apart from claim it doesn't work and try and get a warranty refund

This is why I bought Arctic MX4 paste - it's non-conductive (sorry, not helpful :P )

As Serjames said, try to clean the area up with some isopropanol (or whatever you used to clean the old paste off with).

Did you properly clean off the old paste? How far are you getting in the boot procedure (or does your PC just refuse to turn on at all)?

The paste has gotten in between the pins in one corner if the socket. Its non conductive paste. So uts possible the some if the pins are bent, but because if the paste I can't tell. Fairly certain its a socket issue now, fans spin up then cut out repeatedly. I've bitten the bullet and orders a new MOBO. Will have to put off my new gpu

Ah my bad, I just saw "arctic silver" in your post (silver is conductive).

Since you've ordered a new motherboard, you may as well try and clean the current one up to try and see if you can get it working (unless you're gonna try and send it back?).

Ok, new mobo is in. Everything seemed fine after a but of testing last night. New soundcard arrived today, and my OC is now running cooler. Every cloud...

And the best part is the mrs is away all weekend, which means I can do some stress testing. And by stress testing I mean setting up my man cave and having a 3 day arma binge.
