Game crash, no video

Hi guys, i have a really annoying random crash issue, happened twice in tonight's op, and twice in last weeks midweek, although I have managed the entirety of last week Sunday op and a couple of hours yesterday on the public with no issues. My PC crashes to a black screen, then the video cuts, only a hard restart will fix the crash. It reminds me of a gfx card overheat, but according to all evidence I'm good for temps, I'm running a gtx970 with 16gb ram, so I'm Not short of resources either, any ideas?

Could be your psu? What watts do you have? Or cpu over heat

Parker 3CB

His men would follow him anywhere, but only out of curiosity.

Sometimes the GPU fans don't fire up properly.. Might be worth installing MSI Afterburner and manually configuring a cooling profile

I have a 750 watt psu, so should be plenty of overhead, PC is also rock stable on all other games, including gta5 and elite dangerous at 2560x1440 max detail at 144hz, so I can't really see arma demanding more than those games. I'll try a manual fan profile just to check, but I do already have afterburner and it seems to all be running ok, it's really annoying as Arma is the only game affected, everything else is rock solid, Google doesn't come up with anything solid either :(

Validated steam cache files ? Checked the RPT files ?

Can't think what else it might be...

When the crash happens can you turn caps lock on/off?
If not it could be your cpu that's locking up not the gpu

The PC remains active for a few minutes, I still hear teamspeak, keyboard works ok, but then within maybe 20 seconds, the PC locks and needs a hard reset, There are several instances of this I can find by google search, but no solid answer, a few myths regarding google chrome and suchlike that I will work through, along with SJ's advice above.

Its getting to the point of spoiling my game as I like to play LMG and its not fair on the rest of my sqaud to lose 50% of its firepower, Also it has never happened in single player Arma, just to compound the problem!

Might be worth opening 'Event Viewer' after your next lockup and searching for the critical errors log - might help you narrow it down.

Spent a while poring over logs last night, there doesnt seem to be anything concrete to tie the 2 crashes together, so im sticking with my gut feel that this is heat related. I used the ipad to monitor afterburner whilst running the arma 3 demo, as well as some GTA5, my peak temp was 90 degrees C, which doesnt sound horrific to me, but I have modified my fan profile to keep things under 80, noisy but I pay with headphones 90% of the time so bearable. Annoying as the pc was rock steady even when I was pushing the temps up to 'toasty' levels trying to reproduce the crash...

90 ?

That's Hot mate.

VERY hot for a 900 series. They throttle back at anything past 70 degrees. Something ain't right there.

More airflow needed ?

In fact that's nuts hot for a 900 series... have you messed with the cooler in anyway... i.e. removed or reseated it ? I'd hazard a guess your GPU cooler is not correctly attached to the chip...
