SITUATION:The Republic of Altis, Aegean Sea, 21st April 2027
In late 2026, a bloody civil war broke out in the Republic of Altis between the AAF (Altis Armed Forces) and the general civilian populous who were in opposition to the government. In early 2027, western forces were mobilized to act as a peacekeeping force and to apply pressure to the AAF. Following inhumane treatment of civilians, where civilians were purposely targeted, tied with the discovery of relations building between CSAT and AAF governments, it prompted NATO to initiate military action with United Nations approval.
After only a week of conflict, significant pressure, both politically and logistically, was applied to the AAF. As a result, it caused the AAF government to dissolve and control be temporarily handed to western forces. Western forces, mainly consisting of British and American military units began a rebuilding project, with the assistance of civilian organisations, to return Altis to its pre-war state from its war-torn landscape.
Following the dissolution of the hardline AAF government led by Colonel Akhanteros, a new threat quickly emerged in the Republic of Altis. Key military installations, as well as towns in the mountainous north-west region of Altis, had been lost contact with. NATO quickly identified the force responsible for this as being the FIA (Freedom and Independence Army). Although NATO predicted resistance to temporary control of Altis, they never predicted the actions of the FIA.
Loyalist Altians, as well as ex-AAF personnel, formed together to take back ground from the western forces. Within a day, they had taken two key military installations formerly controlled by the AAF, taking one American unit hostage. However, more importantly, they have regained control of surrounding towns and villages where it is reported that civilians were being held against their will to counter any military action NATO forces may have immediately taken.
Military action was not an option given their large arsenal taken from AAF supply dumps. But more importantly, the risk military actions posed on the loss of life of both captured American and civilian personnel was too great. Thus, with the assistance of the United Nations, diplomatic measures were drawn up and starting to be executed.

Following five days of diplomatic resolve, NATO, as well as the UN, were starting to lose patience with the FIA. As reports of poor treatment of both American and civilian personnel emerged, military action grew ever greater. The FIA demanded that control of Altis be reinstated to them and Altian loyalists, however, this was far from sensible, or possible.
Although the idea of military action was still unlikely, this changed exponentially in the early hours of the 27th of April. Intelligence from satellite images shown civilians lying for hours, presumed dead, in the alleyways and streets of some of the captured towns. Very soon after this intelligence was gained, the FIA confirmed that it would start killing American personnel if demands were not met by the next day. This left both the United Nations and NATO to result in military action.

With military action approved, plans in coordination with British and American units were quickly drawn up. The primary objective for American personnel is to rescue their hostages whilst taking key industrial sites. British personnel have been tasked with clearing towns, evacuating civilians and forcing the FIA out. Given the urgency of this operation, the execution phase is fast approaching.
