SITUATION:
Virojoki coastline, Virolahti Region, Suukoski. April 2014.
With the dissolution of the Soviet Union reshaping eastern europe, Suukoski remained staunchly aligned to the USSR. Gaining independence in 1991, the nation quickly developed close ties to the Russian Federation.
Struggles to develop a national identity continued past the millennium as old allegiances to Russia conflicted with younger views, more sympathetic to the west and drawn to the ideals of the European Union. Financial difficulties further curtailed Suukoski’s growth and longstanding power struggles within the military and parliament have erupted into a country wide conflict.
The deposed ministers led loyal elements of the Suukoski Defense Force (SDF) and seized the northern regions of the country before advancing south east towards the capital. The rebel forces halted the SDF advance with support from US and British forces.
A SDF offensive in the Virolahti region has captured the towns of Länsikylä and Haavvisto. The SDF are now in position to seize Virojoki (objective Monday) and the nearby airfield (Objective Sunday). Rebel troops withdrawing from the southern peninsula have been unable to disengage harassing forces as a secondary SDF element is holding the main road out (Route Wednesday).
Coalition forces are to deploy from the US fleet off of the coast of Suukoski. British forces are to support the defense of Virojoki and capture Route Wednesday for the safe withdrawal of rebel forces. US forces will reinforce the defense of Objective Sunday and disrupt the SDF attack.
