Maybe I am bit overly careful here, I am just not a fan of terms that taken as official while they are not. Can create confusion and a false sense of elitism.
What's an "official" term, then? 3CB doesn't really teach you a big list of acronyms in either training and "PID" is certainly a common expression in rl
Though, because of the COIN (counter-insurgency) nature of the recent conflicts, usually used for "enemy/civilian" rather then "enemy/friend" distinction.
Are things like BOF (Base of Fire), RV (rendez-vous), WP (waypoint) somehow more "official" then PID?
I recall a briefing a few years ago where someone used "Alpha LOA" as a marker on the map. I had never seen LOA before, but a quick question got me a "Limit of Advance" and that was it.
And it took me a good while to figure out what the f**k everybody in shacktac videos were on about when they're talking about "EI" (enemy infantry) but that was a situation where I couldn't just ask somebody

BTW: An idea of what a 3CB glossary might look like:
PID (Positive* IDentification)
Example: "You're free to engage if you have PID" -- "You can shoot if you're sure it's a valid target"
People on the 3CB server have taken to shouting "PID, PID" as a shorter replacement for "CHECK YOUR TARGETS".
It's also commonly used in de-brief/after a BLU-on-BLU (friendly fire) incident, as a sort of insult/complaint ("Learn to PID!")
*positive is here used with its (today) somewhat less common meaning of 'clear'/'doubtless' rather than "good" or "lacking in electrons"
