Unfortunately I remember computers from quite a bit before the ZX81 too.
I wrote some ace games for the Commodore PET... dodging a 'spaceship' (the letter "A") through a fast scrolling asteroid field (the letters "O"). Silly simple by today's standard but ridiculously good fun and addictive to a 12 year old boy.
