ACE Medical - General discussion

Edit: The PAK (Personal Aid Kit) is a item that when used on another player, it will completly heal/revive him. Right now it works pretty weird and using it is pretty much being medic jesus at the very moment. Stand up and walk my son, you are healed of all your wounds and worries. In CSE there was a option that you can only use the PAK if a player is not bleading anymore. For some reason this is not possible in ACE3 right now.

I think ACE3 can be a solid base for a medical system that offers some good gameplay for medics and non-medics, while keeping the flow of the gameplay up and not slowing it down when it should not be slowed.

Some things are a bit weird right now and I wonder why certain decisions in the development of ACE3 were made. Compared to the versions of CSE that I played, they managed to make some things less logical and also sometimes giving you less options to set certain things up. This is especially annoying when it comes to how the PAK works at this moment.

I have explained my standing on the medical system of ACE3 a few times, but this is finally the correct thread for it. :)

What I want to see is something I described above. A system that is fun and interesting but without killing the gameplay. Not every minor injury should stop the gameplay completly, but at the same time I would like to see more engaging medic gameplay. In my opinion the best way would be using the advanced system in general with some tweaks. My perfect situation would be the fact that only medics can use the surgical kit and the PAK in the field. This would make the medic more important without making him overly important. Even a heavily injured player could in fact get back in the game without having a medic around at the time, but this should not come without a price. As suggested by some other people, I think medics should get a time bonus for bandaging etc. And while normal players could fix a player in the here and now, you would still need a medic around to fully heal the player and not just bring him back into the game, but also make sure he stays in the game.

If possible (right now it is not) I would also like to see the option that inside field hospitals and inside medical vehicles non-medics could also use the PAK  and the surgical kit. This could give Pilots and Crew members something more to do and could be helpful in situations where a section has a lot of casualties and maybe no medic around. You could call in a MEDEVAC vehicle and get your guys up quickly, while adding something to the gameplay.

I think this would be a good compromise between realism, deeper gameplay for the medic, while keeping the pace of the gameplay at a good level.

As per the rotation with basic and advanced on the public (so people can get a feel for each) can I just say that during the first op using advanced that I have one of the best games of arma since arma 3 came out!
Regardless of complexity (which it isn't really) the gameplay style it forced us to use was fantastic.

Just be advised Howl that ACE isn't official just yet and we still haven't finished our testing on the public to find out whether we're using the Basic/Advanced medical system.

You can still make a mission with the Advanced kit, but be prepared to change the kit if we decide to go with the Basic settings ;)

I have not played with the current setting on, so I can only give you some broad advice.

For a medic

20x Bandage Elastic
20x Packing Bandage
20x Bandage Basic
20x Bandage Field Dressdind (Quick Cloth)
20x Morphine
20x Epinephrine
5x Atropin
4x Tourniquet
1x Saline IV 1000ml
2x Saline IV 500ml
4x Saline IV 250ml
1x Banana

Thanks for this.... VERY useful - will come in again as useful when/if we get our ACE3 3CB_Units config sorted.

I'd suggest we add 3 of the Surgical kit to this, also the personal aid kit.

for soldiers/troopers the suggested standard looks good:
  • 4 x Bandage (basic)
  • 3 x Bandage (elastic)
  • 3 x Bandage (packing)
  • 3 x QuikClot
  • 1 x Morphine Autoinjector
  • 1 x Tourniquet

I did not include the PAK and the surgical kit in here. Depending on the settings those items are disposable or not. Also I think on Github, they confirmed my request to change the weight/size of the PAK and the surgical for the next release.

For normal soldiers, I would suggest

10x QuickCloth
4x Bandage basic
4x Bandage elastic
4x Bandage packing
4x Morphine
4x Epi
1x Atropin
2x Tourniquet
1x Saline IV 500ml
1x Banana of course.

@Serjames See here for the ACE team's own recommendation for loadouts (both Basic and Advanced):

I second Melonfish's suggestion for standard troops, seems about right. :)

I ran with the ACE suggested system when I started and modified based on my personal preferences and ended up with pretty identical settings to what have been suggested here. Some differences and I've tried to explain them after the kit suggestions
......

Especially the first one looks very good. Especially with the background that most likely the weight/site of the PAK will change and you will not be able to take ridiculous ammounts of them with you.
