Dawn of a New Era (Game Thread)

(Sign Up Thread) https://www.3commandobrigade.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1850

A power shift is emerging. The fall of the Soviet Union has only left one superpower left, with a large surge of political changes happening around the globe. Although George H. W. Bush has declared a "New World Order". It will be tricky for many nations to adjust their foreign policies to adapt to this new world. Many nations will attempt a route of peace, but others may still become a dangerous aggressor in world politics.

China is a growing power, with their new leader Jiang Zemin pushing for economic reforms to bring the people of his nation to prosperity and out of poverty. The Russian Federation, although newly formed, can still be a formidable foe with its remaining military strength, but the failing economy of the nation will tell what occurs of its future.

                                                                                                                      World Events

1. Operation Restore Hope
UNITAF has recently started and US - led Humanitarian Efforts are underway. US forces have secured the airport in Mogadishu and although the main objective of the operation was to provide humanitarian aid and stabilize the region, rumors have surfaced that US forces are taking a more aggressive action against the local clans in the city. In turn, local militias in the city have become more hostile, leading to some UN Peacekeepers to be killed. UNSOMII is soon to begin and take over, but more countries are casting doubt on the success of the humanitarian mission in Somalia.

2.Salvadorian Civil War
The Civil War in El Salvador is still raging, but peace talks have finally commenced, with Government and Rebel soldiers negotiating for a peace treaty. Indiscriminate attacks are still frequent, with random bystanders killed. Recently two US Military Advisors were wounded by FMLN Rebels, increasing tensions in the Central American Country. But now with the FMLNs main backer, the USSR, collapsed, the weapons and funding supporting the rebels have been cut off. Many believe that soon the war will be over.

3.Yugoslav Wars
A conflict is brewing as the recently proclaimed state of Croatia is attacked by the JNA (Yugoslavian Peoples Army) after civil unrest led to serbian ethic rebels attempting to break away from Croatia. Most are unsure of how bad the situation might become, as Yugoslavia is slowly breaking apart, and talks have started to where a United Nations relief effort may be created to help refugees from the civil war. At the current moment the Yugoslavian Army has partially broken through into Croatia, with the port city of Dubrovnik under siege.

France: We believe that although circumstances may be dire in the Balkan region, we must not get ahead of ourselves here. As one of the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, I propose we have a meeting regarding a possible UN Peacekeeping mission in the Yugoslavian Croatian border region. But we cannot show support for any side at the moment.

Although the Yugoslavian invasion of Croatia is in violation of the sovereign right of the Croatian state, we must worry about lasting consequences in the conflict on the civilian populous and support refugees that come out of it. We propose that a mission is established to set up refugee camps and provide humanitarian aid until the conflict subsides, to which we can consider withdrawing from the region or extending the mission. Support will be shown to no side in this mission and anyone that does will be forced to withdraw their participating peacekeepers in the region.

The UNHRC (United Nations Human Rights Council) requests that support is withheld from North Korea unless they show the world they have changed by allowing UN inspectors to investigate the country freely for any human rights abuses. We also ask on behalf of the UNAEC (United Nations Atomic Energy Commission) to also allow inspectors to investigate rumors of research for possible missile tests.

Spain: We also agree with France's proposal and will be willing to send peacekeepers on a mission to the Balkans, and we also will back the UNHRC proposal to know North Korea is willing to reenter the world stage and sign a peace treaty to formerly end the Korean War.

We also implore the MITHRIL Alliance members to adjust their motives and reconsider their declaration, as the alliance has the potential to destabilize the region so soon after the power vacuum of the dissolution of the USSR. We express concern over the possibility of a smaller scale Cold War between the MITHRIL alliance and the Russian Chinese Power Bloc.

NEW INTERNAL EVENTS: Russia, United States, South Korea, Japan

Russia: The Chechen National Congress has declared independence for Chechnya, but is asking for official recognition from Russia and Europe.

United States: The American people are skeptical of the current administrations decision to assist the DPRK even though refugees that snuck out of North Korea are speaking of human rights abuses. (Democrats gain support)

South Korea/Japan: Some nationalist groups in both counties want a resolution to the island dispute on the Liancourt Rocks, both claiming rightful ownership.

China: We agree with the RF proposal to settle this border dispute, and we propose that we host the conference within the city of Harbin, as it has both Russian and Chinese history.

We also will keep sending foreign aid to North Korea in order to keep its economy from collapsing.

*secret* (North Korea)
Although we appreciate trying to support your own country, we strongly urge you to show restraint from foreign assistance, as it may destabilize your countries power and strain international relations from your policy on political prisoners. We also implore you to support us in our effort against this MITHRIL alliance, otherwise we may see a split in power in the East Asia region.

We also suggest you keep close watch on the foreign aid workers, they cannot find those camps.

*secret* (Russian Federation)
We will support you against the MITHRIL Alliance, their recent decree of the Liancourt rocks may cause dissent among their populace. Be ready to act on a moments notice.

WORLD EVENTS

1. MITHRIL ALLIANCE
World Tension is rising in the Far East as the MITHRIL Alliance has been signed. People not only within the signature countries but also China and Russia are calling out the alliance as a front to spread military dominance and ideology across the Pacific. Russia and China (also North Korea) are openly speaking out against the pact and demand a dissolution of the pact, while Japan and South Korea state they will not in order to better protect their nations and cultures. Nothing as of yet has been said from the United States concerning this matter, and some fear it may result in a war, with European nations attempting to stop the potential firecracker.

2. Chechnya
As the Chechen Republic demanded recognition from the Russian Federation, mobilized troops of the 138th Motor Guards Division and the reformed 13th Guards Rife Division have entered Chechnya, engaging the newly formed Chechen militia. News reports have surfaced of the bombing of Grozny, destroying many civilian homes, although most of the residents were hastily evacuated.

3. Arrests of Korean and Chinese Airplane Passengers
Multiple Koreans and Chinese passengers were arrested this week, with a few intending to travel into South Korea.  Official Report is coming soon.

4. Revolutionaries in Mindanao
Islamic rebels, with suspected backing from Al Qaeda and Libya, have seized control of 1/3 of the Mindanao province in the Philippines. They have somehow obtained heavy weaponry, including ZU-23s and T54s and, with the recent capture of the local airport in Davao City, they converted a local tourist Cessna to fire some basic rocket pods. The Philippine Army is organizing to retake the southern territories and stomp out the insurgency.

In Basilan, remnants of the New People's Army (Communist Guerrilla Group) have taken control of the island, also with heavy equipment, although they are simple Katyusha knockoffs and T34s from when the Chinese supported them. They are asking for independence to be granted for themselves and are preparing island defenses in case the Philippine Army attacks to unite the nation. They are asking for any nations to support them, either diplomatically or with weapons, and promise to root out any possible terrorists from the island.

5. Protests in Japan and South Korea
With the immediate resolution of the Liancourts Island Dispute, South Korean protests demand the permanent removal of Japanese influence on the island, and full access and control of its resources, with none giving it to Japan.

On the contrary, Japanese protesters demand a reversal of the declaration, citing the government to be inept and cowardly in giving up Japanese soil to the Koreans.

Unity of both South Korea and Japan have decreased, with minor dissent on the rise, and may grow worse if left unchecked.

Japan Internal Event (The Lost Decade)

After rapid climbing of the housing market, the bubble has grown so large that the Bank of Japan realized its too unstable. Although they decided to slowly increase interest rates to try to minimize the bubble exploding, it had grown too large and during the opening of the Stock Market on Monday, brokers realized the sudden drop on all stocks. Many businesses now owe banks a lot of debt, and people attempting to withdraw money from the banks are realizing there is a current freeze on any bank withdrawal above 30%. Government analysts predict that it may lead to the entire collapse of the economy if left unchecked, but the sooner the government intervenes, the less it may devastate the local economy. Many now believe that soon the Japanese Government is forming a package to release to the economy to help failing businesses and banks.

Current status of Japanese Economy: Poor

OOC: This actually happened, just look at this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Decade_(Japan)

Since you put down your economy as good, the recession in the country was delayed, but the bubble still exploded (as all bubbles are inevitable to burst).

Image

Although this mainly affects Japan, because of the recent MITHRIL Alliance, South Korea's economy will suffer a bit more in an attempt to pick up the slack from the Japanese recession.

China Internal Event:

As China prepares the final necessities to start the Three Gorges Dam, many environmentalists argue that it may cause more harm than good. They cite that sediment that flows down the Yangtze River may build up along the dam and it may flood rural areas where farmland may be. They also mention that although it may provide energy, there is no current plan for how waste will be disposed of in the dam, concerning locals that waste may be dumped onto their land. Their final large argument is that the erosion from the water that may have levels rising, will cause landslides in the future. The Chinese Government has yet to make a statement.

Image

Protests are currently lowering unity in the region, with many protests occurring in rural areas.

United Kingdom Internal Event:

Windsor Castle has recently caught on fire. Although the current reason for why the fire started is unknown, it is estimated that the repair cost may range around £50 million worth of damage.

Image

Loss of Historical Artifacts, and repair costs have been taken out of the budget. Taxpayers may have to cough up a bit more money if the estimate is too high.

UN: After the resolution was passed to force MITHRIL to toss aside it's military part of the alliance. Japan agreed under the condition that more troops from the United States and France are stationed in Japan to secure its interests in the nation.

The United Nations condemns the military exercises conducted at the present between the Peoples Republic of China and the Democratic Peoples Republic of North Korea. The United Nations demand these two nations to cease the exercises, for it may only serve to destabilize the region especially after Japan finally agreed to stand down.

The United Nations has also received the report between Korean and Chinese arrests with false passports to South Korea, and will release the report to the public soon.

We also condemn North Korea for purchasing equipment and weapons from Black Market sources in Eastern Europe, and will reinstate our decree of sanctions against North Korea. this means all aid and support being sent to the Korean Peninsula will cease immediately until North Korea stops its weapons buildup and provides reparations to all equipment stolen from the Russian Federation and it's satellite states.

Finally we will organize a peacekeeping mission into the Balkan region and will ask willing participating countries to send representatives to Madrid to host the conference.

(Separate post will be made for the conference)
