SITUATION:
After the discovery of oil and gas deposits in 2011, the N’Ziwasogo region of the Democratic Republic of Congo has fallen into chaos. Two factions arose to challenge the legitimate government. La Séléka, a group of former military officers and police turned rebels, paramilitaries and criminal gangs. Salafi Jihadist groups moved into the area in their own attempt to take illegal possession of the various oil and gas drilling platforms and storage facilities. The local government lost control and the creation of a new UN Peacekeeping force, the Force Intervention Brigade, was authorised via United Nations Security Council Resolution 2098 to restore order and keep the peace between the warring factions.
Now in 2021 the FIB has been expanded from the original three participants, South Africa, Tanzania and Malawi, to include 3 Commando Brigade from the United Kingdom with additional elements from Takistan, Livonia and Azande to assist the main UN Peacekeeping effort and the legitimate government across the country.
La Séléka has taken control of the main energy infrastructure in the western part of the region and the loose coalition of salafist jihadist group, now consolidated under the single banner of Islamic State Central Africa Province, has total control over the north east and will frequently make raids into the west to massacre innocent civilians and kidnap western aid workers with intention of murdering them for propaganda purposes.
MISSION:
Today's mission is to provide QRF in support of the main UN Peacekeeping force. Several tasks are being undertaken today over the next 12 hours. UN Peacekeepers in the west are moving through an area between Mussembe and Koundara removing a series of illegal La Séléka checkpoints that they have set up to extort money from the already impoverished locals and to restore order. UN helicopters are dropping aid supplies to the remote villages south of Quimhamel as well as scouting for Islamic State activity along the current demarcation line near Patrol Base Alpha X-Ray. The QRF will respond to any situation as deemed necessary by the Force Intervention Brigade commander.
It will be the lead Troops decision, on how he wishes to approach this task.Figure 1. IDAP delivers aid packages to the local civilian populace.
