I don't think we will be including a prototype weapon as the standard issue weapon for our units. It will remain in the pack for mission makers and also be available to players via the Virtual Arsenal.

Yes it is.. They were struggling with accuracy on the L129-A1 as the scopes they used were designed for the GPMG or BMG 50 if I read correctly. i.e. the reticule wasn't actually specced for the barrel length and ballistic properties of the chamberered round. So whilst better than the L85 it was struggling a little at its designed range of 800.

They did a big shoot off between the L129-A1 and the L86 - modified with modern furniture and found the L86 just as accurate if not more so over range. (longer, heavier barrel and Better MV.

Actually it kept the L86-A2 tag I think as opposed to A3 (which we guessed). Now it's still basically a prototype, as it's a specialist weapon. And I've not heard more about it... But it's nice to keep in in the pack as it does offer different game play dynamics to the regular L86 and L129-A1 - I also think it looks pukka.

I guess in the pack it should be re-named L86-A2 RIS

It would be nice to get our "sharp-shooter" role in the most up-to date loadouts, using this instead of the L86 with plastic - as that's old hat now

The L129a1 was an emergency procurement weapon to fill in a recognised weakness during the war in Afghanistan. Because the Taliban could engage at greater distances across flat / mountainous areas with the heavier 7.62mm round in their AK's, and the L85 / L86 lacked the range / punch at similar distance, the L129a1 was rushed into service. It's future is now under review because not all deployments will be in terrain such as Afghanistan, and as SJ says, we have loads of L86's lying around and in typically appalling MOD style, we slash everything back to the bone during down time.

Depends. These are the hitzones in A3

Image

As you can see there is a difference in the chest and the torso and you might have hit the part just below the chest.

The blue zones are the ones where the weapon will cause its normal damage.
The yellow area () usually has 20% - 30% increased damage on a hit.
The green areas have 20% - 30% decreased damage

Yep, that would be my first guess as well.

Went into the arsenal and I can confirm that it appears to be a bit weird at times. I shot the dummies in the arsenal with the L129 in the chest in the exact same spot and I got different results from:

1 shot = dead or unconscious
2 shots = dead or unconscious
3 shots = dead

I actually hit the exact same spot on the chest and the dummies had a 3CB vest equipped.

We didn't test this over the last week's testing.

Could you try with an RHS placed unit and an AAF placed unit ?

The config scripts that go with those units are important...

Whether they use the L86 or L129 is dependent on the theater, logistics and battalions preferences.  The reason why they rushed the L129 into service was the greater hitting power at long range.  However, in theaters where this is not so important either because engagement ranges are shorter, or there are better alternatives for longer range strikes, then the L86 is preferred.  The main reason being logistics.  One type of ammo across the either section is a lot more flexible.

Got pretty much the same results with the exeption that the RHS infantry seems to be more likely to take three shots until they die.

There's also a degree of randomness for identical shots due to how damage is divvied out across bodyparts, hence the frequent leg wounds when shot in the chest or head.
