Taunus Terrain


The guy behind X-Cam and some other guys are currently working on a new terrain and released the first information and media about it.

The terrain they are working on is not a island and it is in fact a region of germany. The terrain will have the name Taunus and tried to bring the real region with the same name into the game. The Taunus is called a mountain area, but it is in fact a area that is dominated by some nice hills, forests and fields. The highest mountain in the area and on the map is the Feldberg which is 878m high.

Right now five guys are working on the map and it will have a size of 20480x20480m. There is no release date yet for it. The screenshots that are now up look pretty nice.

My first thought was "goddamn, that first screenie looks like real life! ...oh, wait..."

The things I like most are that the balanced of wooded to open seems about ideal in those few screenies, and the possibility of the topography and settlements for fighting position looks good. Like Andy, I just hope it's not a laggy fit like some of the prettier maps are D:

Looks good. Would make for some decent European warfare missions with the russkies crossing across Europe.

Also reminds me a lot of the field exo areas near catterick. Potential new training map for recruits?

Optimiziation will most likely be a issue and the guys who make the map dont strike me a people who like to make compromises. They guys already mentioned that especially the AI will have a lot of trouble with pathfinding and reacting properly. When it comes to the fps, they claim the performance is better as the x-cam protoype map.

All aside it is impressive how close the map is to the actual Taunus.
