Possible Chinnok replacement.

Once the RAF textures are in, maybe using this Chinnok instead of DeltaGamers to enable sling loading coyotes and maybe tanks. It can apparently sling load itself. Haven't tested it yet.

Slightly odd, talks to pixels.

The reason why we didn't make the Coyote slingloadable is because it weighs more than 10 tons. The Chinook sling load capacity is roughly the same. Likewise we don't want it lifting tanks - other than the lighter types that were specifically designed to be airlifted by the Chinook (Scimitar for example).

Ok, makes sense.

According to wiki:

  • Loaded weight: 26,680 lb (12,100 kg)
So its capable of lifting itself, crazy! =D

With helos, lifting external cargo isn't quite as straightforward as the weight, though - yes, the Chinook can lift itself but they have to do things like remove the rotors (to prevent weird lift effects, and strain on the brake that's trying to stop the blades autorotating as you fly). The loads have to follow certain rules of aerodynamics, both for flight and for not disrupting the rotor downwash.

So yes, we could Chinook a Chinook into an area... but unless you want to spend a day or two reassembling it all it's probably not worth it ;)

It's more like a weeks work to airsling a wokka. Obviously operational requirements can drastically reduce that but it's not the done thing.

The thing to remember though is that arma is a game and allowances have to be made to keep the fun factor/realism balance. The big question is... do we need it?

Nope ;) Cool, but no practical reason for wanting to do it in game.

The only reason I mentioned that mod of the helo being able to lift itself in game, was because I was under the assumption that the reason the coyote can't be lifted is through the current Chinnok being set to not handle the load. Evrik informed that it's a setting with the coyote not vise versa so the suggestion for a switch of Chinnok mod is moot. I have enjoyed the related discussions though which were very informative. ;-)

Well, actually it is both. The Chinook's lift limit in the config and the Coyote's weight / sling load points.
