WARTHOG + Fix

It's probably not something we can achieve due to the axis thing. We've discussed it with modellers before I.e. Making the front steering part a "Wheel" with the back half following on behind. However they never shared files with us as far as I can recall.

Long story short the mod team have so much to do with what's on their plate at the moment that a warthog or Viking is years away at best.

Good news. A little birdie told me we're getting those reticules into the next weapon pack update... Along with some other tasty upgrades. ;-)

As SJ said there are major issues with articulation. It means that arma can't even use trailers. Burnes has tried it and it results in 'bang BOOM' because of the arma physics.

Hopefully it can be something achieved in Arma 4 if BI bring out a massively reworked/new engine.

As an addition to my last. Remember towed cars in epoch? They tried to actually tow cars with a rope rather than solid fixing them to the back. Hilarity ensued... Cue cars bungeeing into your back end as you pull away and all your hard earned going up in smoke.

They made it by making the front cab a 'wheel'. When you steer left or right, the whole cab slides around in that direction. I think we have that model. It was given to us - minus the textures. The work involved to get it into game would be ridiculous and far more time than we can spare though.

Looking forward to the reticle and upgraded pack!

Ahhh I see, you mean work getting the wheeled cab version from Arma 2 into Arma 3 would be extremely hard? or properly creating one from scratch would be? and out of curiosity, how long would it take a skilled modder to create one from scratch?
Months

It's not just the one model. You have to do several of the same at different qualities. Then UV map it (laying the 3d shape flat) then texturing. Memory points, animations, then you have configure its abilities and armour for the game. What it can do and carry. There are other steps to do as well like shadows and loads of other stuff which Ive not learned yet. All this has to be done using various programs, none of which work with arma so you have to keep converting the files.

Then after you get it in game it has to be tested and bugs worked out. For some bugs you may have to go back to square 1 and redo/change all the steps.

Interesting discussion.

We got offered a model of the warthog a few months ago, by a team of modelers, but we turned them down.    The model and the texturing is not the issue, and yes it takes many hundreds of hours to create a high quality textured model.  The problem is that the A3 engine is just not designed to simulate articulated vehicles.  There have been several attempts to get them to work, but all of them are hacks.  They're unstable and just not suitable for a released mod.  Until BIS add articulation into the engine we'll not be touching warhogs.

Nope, we do not currently have a Mastiff, only a Ridgeback.  But that requires a lot of work.
