C-tab

In prep for the 15 MEU Op I downloaded and trialed CTab - commanders tablet.

They use it for commanders, to replace the mission map.  ie they have no blufor markers on the map and use the tablet to both track units and to mark enemy.

It looks excellent, and comes in 3 variants - two version for the infantry and one vehicle

If there is sufficient interest for use on private ops, then SJ could you add it to your "to be tested" list?

All for more realism rather than a 'magic paper' map.

Could it be integrated onto MFD's?

It is a bit of a shame that the mission didnt work yesterday because it would have been the best possible experience for that mod. I used this mod when it was included in CSE (that was before ACE3) came out and I loved it.

It's not just about realism, it also makes things actually easier and better. Placing a enemy unit marker or a waypoint is easier because its not a system from Operation Flashpoint like a modern OS when it comes to the handling. Markers also show how long ago it was since they have been placed. So you can see that a ENEMY SECTION Marker is two hours old.

I loved the setup that Section Commanders, Troop Commanders, Coy and Vehicles had a tablet and FTL's the little PDA. You can customize your bluefor tracker symbol and name. In practice that means you can actually see where a fireteam of a section is and you can identify assets betterb ecause they can have a custom bluefor symbol and name.

I would love to see this in our midweek and private operations.

I'd love for this to be used in Private Ops. As Robbie stated, it's more realistic than the self-updating magic map we currently have.

If testing goes well, I don't see why we can't have it on our public repo too.

After all, we want our private and public to be as similar as possible as the pub is where we do most of our learning and practice.

I wouldnt put it on the public because it only makes sense to play it if map markers are turned off. If you do that you expect every player that is joining the public server knowing how ctab works and how to use it. That is something I can not really expect from public players. The public server needs to be accessible.

I agree with Mefirst on this one, the learning curve on public is already high for new players.  This would make it even worse.  Better to consider just for private ops, where we're after more immersion.

Run map markers and the tab.

Edit: or implement the tabs into training as training people up on private ops last minute is going to be a nightmare.

Best leaving the public server beginner proof (similar reasoning for allowing 3rd person on the pub). Unless of course the current map and c-tab can work side by side.

As for the mod itself, has anyone given it a work out for errors/bugs?

I don't want us to end up like one of those stuffy realism units.

Remember this is supposed to be a game and fun.
