New Shacktac

The functionality has shifted quite a bit, I'd suggest watching this short video explaining it all:

Looks good, the ability to be able to see who you're selecting properly for colouring in etc is very useful and the occlusion stuff will make situational awareness much more realistic!

Don't get me wrong, this update looks very nice and everything and the new features are neat

but what's the bloody point of having the shacktac hud when you take away the primary function, in my eyes at least, which is where you know where everyone is at all times?

That one lad from Essex.

Its original aim was to replace the lost sensory (mainly visual) input, and therefore spatial awareness, that you get on a computer screen compared to real life.

It wasn't intended to be a magic radar which showed your team mates across the street, behind 2 sets of walls, hidden on the third floor of a house, although that is what it did and what we have become used to.

So personally I think the occlusion feature is a superb change.

And, as mentioned in the video, you can set it to either run on "magic radar" or "peripheral awareness" modes in the ingame config ;)

After my first initial shock of not being able to see everyone who's around, I now think this is really good.  I know I am guilty of watching the hud to see who is around me and I think others are just as guilty of watching the hud and creating that perfect formation.  I guess it will only help us get better at our communication.

We can always trial it with the occlusion and if it doesn't fit we can disable it...

There's one new feature I really like that nobody's mentioned yet - dead teammates no longer disappear from the HUD. When someone dies, they're only removed from the HUD once someone in your squad IDs the body.

This fixes one thing that's always bugged me about ST HUD - you always magically know when someone in your team is dead. Now if someone in the section goes missing, we'll have to double-check for a body in-case they're still alive and bleeding out somewhere.

Nick, could you pull up the latest version of yours/Jamie's modification and see if it still works ? With the momentum we'll get from the main mod launch would be great to follow it up with another Excellent 3CB mini mod ?
