Real Armor Mod


Didn't this get partially rolled into RHS armour update, which they then blanket-apply to all other vanilla and mod vehicles loaded at the same time?

There is this thing called 'game balance'

If you start changing something then all the other stuff has to change as well to match it. Otherwise it's going to be skewed. 

Until this mod is completed and fully working then it's not even worth wasting any time on at all.

Yes. They have also done something to configure HEAT warheads and the way they behave differently to ERA

Both visually and physically.  You should see the explosion, and feel it in the tank.

In terms of the penetration, it is extremely effective at disrupting the formation of a HEAT rounds penetration jet. 


IMO, the problem with armour in A3 is not the penetration, its the dumb AI crew.  The NLAW is a reasonable killer of the MBTs, but A3 does not simulate the effect of an MBT on infantry.  Russian tanks in particular are trained to engage infantry with HE-Frag.  One 125mm shell will wipe a section and remove the building in which they're hiding.  Until tank vs infantry is properly modeled, ie the AI crew use their full arsenal, tweaking armour values seems almost pointless.

For some reason the crew will only fire auto cannons at infantry.  Face a BMP1 with its 73mm LPG and you're laughing, face the BMP2 with the 30mm autocannon and its a different story.  Again all wrong.  The 73mm has a Frag round specifically designed to suppress infantry, which is never used by the AI.

That sounds a lot like the apache situation where they won't engage infantry with rockets. Isn't it something to do with the cost of the units and how vehicles judge what is important. Obvs this is me knowing more than I should and a little knowledge being a dangerous thing.

Yep, same issue.  Also getting AI to fire their RPGs at non vehicles can be an interesting experience

BI have tried various things to fix it, but nothing yet seems to work.

It can be done. There are AI mods out there that make AI fire rpg's at helicopters and at least one that makes tanks fire their main cannon at infantry.

Here is the tank one. What he has done in the mod is create a false main cannon and used it to overwrite the vanilla one with new values.
