I would rather have a look at this once it is released. Looks like a more useful mod in general.

Why? Can't you just make something in Zeus and save it as a composition?

I was expecting actual trenches in the ground, not mounds of dirt on the surface.

Real trenches are not possible in ArmA 3. The only thing you could do to edit a map itself I guess. 

As far as I can tell, both mods add completely new objects and items. 

 Extended Fortifications looks like it could be nice when in it is finished.


This would be more objects to create better compositions with.



Not an expert but this is probably not possible as the map's terrain mesh would have to be overwritten.
