Yep and if you go to berlin these days, you can still see some of the utopian city architecture. You can find some streets which are absurdly large.

The town I live in was also hit pretty hard by air strikes, but this is no suprise since we had a lot of industry here that was important for the war. A sign at a famous hotel in town once looked like this.


Pretty much says: Welcome to the weaponry of the reich.

The hotel still exists and when you leave the main train station, it is pretty much the first thing you see. However we changed the sign to something more friendly.

From weaponry of the reich to shopping city.

It is a film, not a theoretical documentation. You always need things to move on or finish the plot.

Add the new Mad Max to the list. That movie is f**k amazing and in very positive way very loony.

Some dude stripped to a speaker system on a truck, playing a guitar with a flamethrower is not the most crazy thing in the movie.

Yep, great book . Have high hopes for the film.  

I donno about that Deejay - quite a few books where the film adaptation is equally (if not more so) enjoyable . Trainspotting, The Shining, Clockwork Orange, Goodfellas, Silence of the Lambs, The Shawshank Redemption, Blade Runner, No Country for Old Men, Fight Club,  (to name a few) which I have loved as much as the books.

I'm sure there are a lot more, which aren't coming to mind. Ultimatly it comes down to the producer - usually the more money they're investing, the less likely it'll stay true to the story. Ridley Scott carries enough weight for me to stay excited  - if it were a lesser known director, I'd probably share your concern.  

Not to forget all the books that will maybe never get a film adaption. However sometimes I think it would probably for the better.

Homo-eroticism aside my favorite film is Top Gun, it is some of the best dog fighting ever put to film.

Vietnam: Tour of Duty was enjoyable too (probably more sentimental enjoyment as it's pretty dated to the late 80's).

Russia/Afghanistan: The Beast of War

Vietnam: The Odd Angry Shot
Vietnam: Oliver stones Vietnam "trilogy" is also great. Platoon, Born on the Forth of July, Heaven and Earth (watch in that order).

Indeed - both fantastic. I've slowly been introducing the genre to the misses (skeptical as hell)... slow going, but she seems to be digging them so far. I've started with more recent flicks and am slowly moving back as to not spook her - end goal is Rashomon .

Next project is to get her into (tolerate) spaghetti westerns.
