Blood for the Blood God, skulls for the Skull Throne

Whenever I read stuff like this, I feel really bad for not being more into 40k...but there's just so intimidatingly MUCH of it.... is there an "easy" way to get into the 40k world? 

I've only recently gotten my interest in it back, just for the sake of a bunch of new Horus Heresy stuff thats out. I'd reckon the best way to get into it is pick a faction you like and learn the history around them, then branch out from there.
