I wish arma had better damage modelling - the way it currently works you'll just have your engines magically fail and then drown if you were to attempt that in arma

There probably is a way of doing it in Arma 3. There are line in the config for whether or not a vehicle can float, as well as a seperate option for adjusting the damage taken by vehicles that can't float due to being submersed in water.

If we could get something like the paddle mod, this landing technique and maybe some other water-related goodies into the game, we could start being a lot more "marine"-y ;)

Technically, this is what the C17 mod does. It allows vehicles to be driven onboard the plane and be 'attached' to the cargo area. You would need to do something similiar with the chinook to allow a boat to be 'attached' in the rear compartment. However, whether or not the inflatable boat model will actually physically fit inside the Chinook model via the ramp is another matter.
