If you had to live in Africa, where would you be?

Topic I talked with some people a few times on the Teamspeak, I'm just interested to see what people would choose.



Give us two choices if you had to live on this continent, it may be beautiful, but before you can be absorbed in its glory AIDs, Ebola, and Jihad will kill you.

I would pick South Africa or Ghana because both got decent living standards for the HDI scale (for Africa at least), and besides Ghana got da internet speed brodah.

I think Senegal wouldn't be a bad place. Dunno why though, just looks tiny and is close to the sea.

South Africa is the best place in Africa by every available metric, having worked there for a few months in the mid 2000's I wouldn't want to live there. You're not safe if you're white, was what we got told by our security consultant when we had our first meeting. "don't wander out to far from the nice bits" the divide between the 'nice parts' which were comparable with modern European cities and the nearest shanty town was a strip of motorway, "keep the doors on your cars locked even when you're driving" because poor black guys will car-jack and rob you. Then there's the police corruption (which I used to my advantage, that anecdote involves a strip club, my hired car, me, two police officers who kindly offered me an "on the spot fine" and 750 Rand.)

Africa, no thanks. I'll stick to Europe.
