There is the Society for Creative Anachronism, they don't fight with the swords, because you have to sort of go easy with them, instead they take the martial arts aspect of it and go mental with sticks with a rubber ball on the end. That and they have other aspects of medieval life, you can learn to brew beer and ale or learn how to do carpentry etc., etc., etc.
I was going to get involved with them but the nearest to me in Liverpool was in f*cking Wales and there is no way that I am going to be going to Wales just to take part in something for the weekend, or for "practice" on a certain night to learn how to fight with a "sword". But they do take part in wars and that so you can take part in quite large battles and then sleep in an encampment with a campfire and the mead, ale, wine and beer flowing.
A ex-coworker of mine was into this and apparently in germany there is the one of the biggest events for this every year. They all have their real and usually very expensive stuff, but also outfits and weapons for their fights with LARP Weapons. They also do some crazy s**t, since it is also centered on fantasy. The "orcs" have their own strip club, were some huge woman with green body paint is doing striptease and being treated as their orc queen and you should under no circumstances insult her.
The "humans" do some more medieval centered stuff with peopl being squires and other people who participated in some battles or visited the event for some time are being knights and s**t. Sounds pretty fun, but all that equipment is pretty expensive.
I also have a friend who is into reenactment and he has a complete set of a 30 year war Hellebardenträger which is worth like 8.000€.
