Another interesting windows 10 fun fact

As most people will have noticed there is no product key for a free windows 10 upgrade, meaning that if you change hardware, it can affect the activation if your copy of widows. There is also no way to activate your copy of windows 10 by phone /automated service as there is no "installation id' available.

So in order to activate my copy if windows 10 after replacing my MOBO, I've had to re-install windows 8, complete windows activation, upgrade to 8.1 and then to 10.
So for anyone thinking of overhauling their rig with new hardware and a windows upgrade, do the hardware first and make sure your copy of windows has been reactivated before you upgrade.

After reading a few threads on the windows forums the activation issues are mainly due to demand on their activation servers, which you can kind of forgive them for. Driver issues are down the the hardware manufacturers, but I've had no issues so far

Blimey - i've not had any of that trouble... The only driver/software not compatible was Corsair link... which I only really used to monitor Wattage output during Benching.

I'm giving up on it for the time being, I liked windows 10 but I've spent pretty much 36 hours installing an re-installing it over the last 2 weeks. I'll revisit it once DX12 has made some yards

Haven't upgraded to W10 yet either - my headset company (Corsair) haven't released the drivers yet. People are raging on their forums.

I do like Win 10 especially the ability to open multiple desktops, but some of the related software issues especially the OneDrive permissions bug which has gathered momentum on the windows forums is really annoying. This is particularly frustrating as MS haven't acknowledged it and it's been running for a couple  of weeks now with no solution.  As it is one of their cloud flagships their response is surprising.  Also a bit frustrated with issues in  Outlook13  and ActiveSync. The much hyped new StartMenu is still missing some of the original functionality and I find the alphabetic listing of programs rubbish.  The actual OS has a lot of potential and hopefully MS will listen to customers this time and sort out bugs and hardware and software issues.

i upgraded to Windows 10 but during the install turned off data reporting and said no to letting MS 'gather data' about my usage for ads and searching etc. Haven't signed into one drive and don't use cortana. My PC runs quicker and starts faster but with a slightly higher freq of graphics driver crashes (while playing arma only and used to happen on 8.1 til it settled down). When all the dust settles I may turn the additional features back on. But I'm not sure I'll bother. It sounds like I've got off lucky so far so not gonna rock the boat.

Slightly odd, talks to pixels.

+1 I turned off all the Reporting and data tracking and fingers crossed no issues..

I'd recommend it to friends and family with no concerns - assuming those steps were followed

Make sure you turn Torrenting to OFF or it can smack your bandwidth around a bit...
