Speaking as someone with a mild colour defect, I always find it difficult to get people to understand a) how colour blindness actually manifests, and b) how the various fixes/hacks work in comparison. The thing to remember is that "fixes" like that don't restore the true representation of colour, but instead try to filter out the colours that are incorrectly detected by the faulty receptors so that they no-longer add the wrong colour to various items. This way, you reduce the "muddying" effect where particular colours seem to lose distinctiveness, but the colours that you then perceive have lost some information as a result. So you gain distinction and a measure of subtlety, but at the loss of fidelity... if that makes sense :)

Are you sure/have a source? I'd presumed they hadn't chosen green per se, but that it was rather a function of the most light-amplifying phosphors and reasonably cheap being green-emitters?

But the difference brightnesses all have the same hue. Distinguishing between similar hues gets more difficult as the brightness increases or decreases beyond median (as they all tend to white/black), but when dealing with a monochrome display projected in green I believe it should be universally fine for all colour vision anomalies.

I'm colourblind, and explaining that I don't see the world in black and white has been a common staple of my life haha.

To the colourblind guys here:

Out of curiosity, when we're selecting fireteam colours - is there a preference? Granted, it will vary depending on the type, but if we have a few guys similar, it would be handy to know if it'll make it easier.

I haven't encountered any trouble so far, as the colours we use are different enough from each other. Every unit I've been in have used white, blue and red. So no danger there for me as they're distinct enough.

I'd be in trouble if a section picked yellow and green for example haha.
I think generally as long as white, red or blue are used then it's no issue for me

The red and green should be sufficiently different shades that only people with profound colour deficiencies/blindness have an issue. For me personally, unless the STHUD yellow and green are placed right next to each other, I have to concentrate to work out which is which, so having a section with white/red/blue/green or white/red/blue/yellow is fine, but anything with green and yellow can cause me issues.

Yeah, It's a combination of yellow and green which would be the real kicker. I've got pretty bad colour blindness, but not so bad that red/blue/yellow/white combinations would be an issue

Same for me: As long as you don't use both yellow and green any other set of colours works perfectly well. Just keep in mind that some people have issues seeing the red icons/names against the green-brownish background of the ground/grass (which what will be shown behind the STHUD 90% of the time since) so the very best solution would be to use only white, blue and one of [yellow, green]
