I did hear someone call out a "DRM" and someone else call a "BMT" over the radio on the TvT earlier tonight, had a little chuckle at those :D But I also remember the days of trying to get straight the different russian vehicles and their similar names - it's not even as though you can just easily work out the acronyms from the functions either, what with it being in russian rather than english :P

If they can identify the difference between a BMP and a BRM at a glance from range, then I bow to their vastly superior eyesight and identification skills :v

A BRM is a BMP in NATO designation.

Yeah, I know it is the recon version of the BMP, on the same basic BMP chassis, and it is classed as a BMP variant. In NATO designation, you don't say BRM as it is a Russian designation, you say, there is a BMP over there. It would be correct. Also, it would depend on the type of BRM variant whether or not you would say BRM-R. Some NATO designation for the BRM is BMP M1976 for example, based on its years of use. You'd probably still just call out a BMP at an initial glance.

There are BMPs, BMDs, and BTRs. If you're feeling fancy, you call their generation number (BMP-2, BTR-80). If you're an incessant pain in the ass, you call their model ;)

Off the top of my head, the BRM was an earlier-model BMP-1 with additional radio and/or recon gear to support a field command role. Visually, the only difference I can think of is smallish optical mounts on the turret top, and the lack of an ATGM rail? So yeah, even if it was a BRM (which I'd imagine is an unlikely choice for the mission creator), it'd just confuse all the poor wickle squaddies hearing that rather than "BMP" :v
