To be fair, many of Putin's statements seem fairly level headed so far. 



To add to what Cud and Klawc said, I wouldn't be surprised if Russia steps up their targeted bombing of oil convoys heading towards Turkey and any IS controlled refineries in response to this. It is indeed interesting to see two clearly shady countries trade barbs though.  

Putin's statement:
"This event is beyond the normal framework of fighting against terrorism. Of course our military is doing heroic work against terrorism... But the loss today is a stab in the back, carried out by the accomplices of terrorists. I can’t describe it in any other way. Our aircraft was downed over the territory of Syria, using air-to-air missile from a Turkish F-16. It fell on the Syrian territory 4km from Turkey."

They are fighting terrorists in the northern areas around Latakia, where militants are located, mainly people who originated in Russia, and they were pursuing their direct duty, to make sure these people do not return to Russia. And instead of immediately getting in contact with us, as far as we know, the Turkish side immediately turned to their partners from Nato to discuss this incident, as if we shot down their plane and not they ours."
"Do they want to make Nato serve ISIS? I understand that every state has its own regional interests and we’ve always respected that, but we will never allow the kind of crime that happened to today to take place. And of course we hope that the international community will find the strength to come together and fight against the common evil."

Oh, is it? Sorry about that then grabbed it from another discussion and looked at the upload date. Nevertheless it's the same outcome.

Doesn't that just nicely summarize the entire Syrian mess? A situation where literally every party that's still involved is in some way being a d*ck about things. The Syrian government is a dictatorship with an interesting take on human rights issues, ISIS are intentionally cruel and evil and most of the various other groups have been fighting for so long that the only people that are still left aren't exactly saints either. Add to that the various first world nations that drop ordnance on whoever side they happen to like least, all pretending that they're fighting for the greater good while at the same time only springing to action when their strategic interests are threatened.

The CSAR chopper was engaged with a US made TOW. I'm sure that will go down well...

Well the jet was initially shot down by an F16 .

True, but at least that was operated by a sovereign state rather than a rebel wearing cargo pants and a tshirt.
