Heh. Ass India.

And there was celtic/latin muddle, then germanic languages came and mostly replaced it (but with some mixing), and then the french invaded and glued another layer of words and tweaked grammar on, and then there was further influence again particularly from the dutch and scandinavian regions. English is fun!

(I can't remember where I saw it now, but there was a fantastic table providing the Lord's Prayer in modern english, middle english, old english, and modern icelandic all side by side. The icelandic and old english were rather similar when spoken, if spelled/formed slightly differently. You could then see from the modern and old english, and work out how the middle english had shifted. It was really eye-opening)

Welsh, cornish, and breton are mutually comprehensible to an extent. Source: welsh, cornish and breton friends.

Pretty much, and many of the location names come from the same roto and are also recognisable.

I've never been to Bielefeld and don't know anyone else who has either.

I've been to Bielefeld loads - Loads of Army postings around that area and I bought a GSXR750RR from the NAAFI Motorsales back in the day.
