Hello 3CB

Are you on the TS Team speak server ? Find someone from 3cb who's on and they can normally help.

Quick summary - Use Six updater to select and maintain your mod mix. I.e. create a "3CB" preset and add the mods you need to it.

I use updater to launch the game, that's up to you as long as your game executable points to the right mod mix etc.

I then use the Ingame server filter to find the server I want.

Hope that helps, Updater is a bit of a pig at first, but once it's configured right, it's really easy to use and you'll never need to look at Player or Launcher again (I only hope he improves play with six for the A3 setup - as at the moment it looks clunky)

If you need any help with sorting stuff out just come and speak with one of us on teamspeak and we'll help you get it sorted. As James said you don't need so many mods, like he has :P

Not really - I'm there are others on here that run more.

Obviously some of them are scenario specific or Map specific - but they don't seem to slow it down so rather than pulling them in and out, I just leave them be.

Getting much smoother FPS now I changes that PSU, amazing the difference a good Power supply can have ! Has really suprised me.

It's possible the server has been down... It says it's up at the moment.

Six updater can be found here

http://www.six-updater.net/p/download.html

the link is in small text as Sickboy is trying to get people to migrate to playwithsix.

When i first started I followed this excellent guide from the wrecking crew - there may be some tweaks but I seem to remember it was pretty comprehensive (at work at the moment so can't review it)

http://www.the-wrecking-crew.co.uk/page/installation

If you can get the mods running and working in single player that's the first step.

People will be online this evening for sure. If you can get yourself onto the teamspeak server wait we can try and get it up and running for you.

Trust me - we've all been there...

It's worth it when it all comes together - the improvements over the vanilla game are EXTENSIVE and you'll love it!

In effect there is no difference in sp. You download and install the mods where they need to be. updater does this automatically for you, but you can do it manually.

You then just tell Arma2 what to load when you start it up. I.e.

Load arma Combined ops with the following mods @CBA_CO;@ace;@acex@ etc etc etc.

once in the game they most mods will appear as active by showing up on the right hand side of the load screen. it will literally say @ace @ CBA etc on the right hand side.

For major mods, they will have names and icons on the bottom of the screen. This means they are installed and working.

Most vanilla single player scenarios will not have been created with mods in mind, so they will make little distance. Sometimes mods like ACE can break the single player missions as the AI behave differently. Your mileage may vary. But at least this way you know the mod is in and running.

You can of course find scenarios designed to work with mods i.e. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=11570 This one clearly states which mods you will need to get it to work or play properly. These are a great way to experience what the mods will do before you go Multiplayer. Obviously the ACRE comms side is MP only

Most good mods become common and are often called for i.e. CBA, ACE, ACEX etc. Others are specific to that scenario. like for instance a particular map or weapon pack.

That guide I referenced earlier was pretty good to get me up and started, I just then picked and added mods where needed to improve game-play or give me different options.

Youtube is also a great way to figure stuff out as if you search for how to's there are normally loads - here's a quick search I did

Try this one - it's another good guide i found using google - not my own work i hasten to add.

Note the mods they reference are different to the ones listed above, but the technique is the same.

Yes it can take a little bit of time. I think they sometimes time out due to the size.

Rob Staffs, a recent recruit also had this exact problem for a day or two, but then it just seemed to work for him.

makesure you are selecting "update and install"

It IS possible to manually find them on the internet, save them to the right place. Then have updater find them and update them.

Sounds like you're 90% there though. Remember they are very big files in some cases JSRS is more than 1GB so it can take some time for updater to find a server that will allow the download

Best way H is probably to manually grab it from the internet, install it and allow the updater to recognise it.

At work atm which restricts my Internet powers somewhat, but there must be a direct link somewhere.. This will massively speed up the process for you.

Yeah I think the server is down - I cannot tell properly till I get home.

The mission it's been playing is Zargabad Insurgency which is I think more fun than the Takistan map, it's just a little buggy so needs restarting a couple of times a day as opposed to once every 24 hours or so.

if you've tried the [3CB filter and that definitely doesn't work I will try and re-start it now.

SJ

OK TRY NOW Have restarted it at about 16:30

will be on your own till others spot it though :)

See you there later - I think the mission will have defaulted to an "easy" setting - when we get enough players I'll put it back to Insane level it was awsome last night Took more than 2 hours to take 1 Green Square !!!

lol
