Stuttering - The Cause

Apart from the topic title sounding like a bad hollywood thriller, I think I've found the cause of ArmA 3's stuttering that some people (including me) are getting.

When I run ArmA 3 on SP the game runs the best I've ever seen it. High FPS, gameplay as smooth as butter.
When I run ArmA 3 on MP the game stutters every 2 seconds for about 1/2 of a second. Horrible & unplayable.

However, it seems this MP stuttering only occurs on certain servers.

The cause?


MODS

If I play on a server that runs no mods and strictly forbids mods to be run by any client (aside from the usual ST HUD etc) the game runs just as smooth as it does on SP.
This would explain why last night Benzy, Tom, myself, and others who didn't have the skin mods were getting stutters whereas those who did have the skins (SerJames, Suss, Jed & whoever else) were running fine.

This has been the major cause - for me at least.

I never got any lag problems.

Lucky for some. Unlucky for others.

seems to me the -nolog command solves the majority of the problem..

And ACTUALLY DOWNLOADING THE MODS !

helps with the rest....

honestly not sure why people are SO reluctant.... It's a bit like saying nah, ACE, nah I don't need it, don't get it, why ?

FFS people just get the mods - they are as stable as ANY of the mods in A2 and if that would fix my game... I'd get em ?

James I think you're missing the point a little.

Its not so much I don't want some of the mods, its more to do with what everyone else (the pubbies) see. Sure we might look amazing to ourselves, but to everyone else we look like clowns. Plus theres what this thread says - certain mods create stuttering for those that don't have them (i.e. the pubbies and everyone else who doesn't have your exact mod lineup).

I'd rather stick to vanilla + a few mods that are absolutely required for better gameplay (or for 3CB). You're kind of assuming that we're all in favour of downloading a new mod everytime you add one to your list (which I'm sure will hit 50 by the end of the month)


In answer to Jed - until this stuttering is fixed (hopefully in the full release), it would be better if you didn't use mods. Thanks.

I tried using -noLogs in the dev build, had no affect for me.
